Glumetza (metformin) 1000mg 10 days			Diabetes	High blood pressure Diarrhea	Had been taking glumetza for about a week and a half now and my blood pressure started to go up within 4 days. My Dr. put me on Metformin 500 mg twice a day (for diabetes) in January, 2009; and Lovastatin 40 mg (for cholesterol)once a day in January, 2009. Within 2 weeks, I experienced crippling muscle pain, mostly in my arms. I went to a different Dr. who told me that Lovastatin can cause this muscle pain and weakness and to go off it. I did. The pain in my muscles did not get better. I went to yet a different Dr. and he told me that it should have left my body by now (2 months after stopping Lovastain). He said that in his 20 years of doctoring he had only seen this caused by Metformin once. It never occurred to me that Metformin could be the cause of my pain. He sent me to a Rumatologist. This Dr. didn't think my pain was caused by Metformin, he thought it was the Lovastatin and it was still in my system. He x-rayed my shoulder and said there was slight arthritis (which I did not have before Jan., 2009). He told me to continue taking CoQ10 (which I started after reading blogs). I decided to listen to the Dr. that had seen Metformin cause this pain and I went off it starting April 1, 2009. 3 days later my urine went from dark yellow/tan to almost clear. 12 days later I could raise both my arms over my head at the same time (I hadn't been able to do this for 3 months). I am so glad I went off the Metformin. I take 500 mcg of chromium, 500 mg of Magnesium, 300 mg of Coenzyme Q10, 1000 mg of Vitamn C, 1000 mg of Vitamin D, 100 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid, and 2 daily amino acid pills each day. My muscles are slowly recovering, but I'm afraid the damage to my shoulders is permanent.	48	Female	05/27

It is a #1 choice for diabetic or combined with others, However almost any statin will or can cause sever muscle pain. But usually leaves. Or change to another statin or cut it in half.
