Ocella (drospirenone-ethinyl estradiol) 24/4 4 months

 I got worked up for everything before my doctor realized that my symptoms were a side effect of Ocella. 4 months of recurrent diarhea, nausea, and abdominal cramps... I wish I known sooner that these were simply side effects of the drug. I could have saved myself a fortune in GI work. 26 Female 05/12

minocycline 100mg 20 days

 I took one 100mg capsule of Minocycline a day for about 20 days (3 weeks) before my scalp started to itch. A day after that, hives broke out. Another day after that, my fingers and heels became swollen.

The swelling went down after 1-2 days, but some of my fingers still swell up a little.

I've been off Minocycline for a few days now, and hives/itching are still flaring. My dermatologist prescribed me Triamcinolone (steriod) for the rash/itching.

Yaz (drospirenone-ethinyl estradiol) 2 months

 After suffering for two months with persistent joint pain, fever, fatigue, and sleep deprivation, my Rheumatologist told me today that he believes that I have drug-induced connective tissue disorder, or Lupus. He came to this conclusion because I started Yaz about 6 to 8 weeks before the pain started.

He told me to stop taking Yaz immediately (which I just finished my cycle anyway), double my current dose of Celebrex, which I am now taking 200mg once daily; starting today, I am taking it twice daily. I am also taking Ultram ER 200mg once daily. He also prescribed Ambien so I can sleep once again. I spend at least two nights a week on my sofa, and cannot sleep because I am in so much pain. I typically end up falling asleep around daylight because by that time I've been up for 24 hours, and my body just shuts down.

My affected joints are knees, elbows, wrists, and hands. The pain is INTENSE. It is a pounding, throbbing pain. I can feel my pulse in all affected joints, and it has disrupted my life. When the edge is taken off the pain, my joints feel like they are electrified; like there are pins and needles in them. It is like having Restless Leg Syndrome in all my affected joints. I cannot get comfortable, and I wake myself up shaking my hands, or kicking my legs. It is NOT cool.

My former Rheumatologist told me I had Reactive Arthritis and prescribed 10mg of Prednisone for two weeks. It did NOTHING for my condition, and when I called him to tell him, he didn't care...and pretty much scoffed at the notion that I was in pain at all, even though on my worst days, I cannot even walk! My new Rheumatologist said that Reactive Arthritis is NOT even a consideration because my blood work has never revealed any viral infection, whatsoever.

I am hopeful we have arrived at the right answer, and this pain is on its way out the door! I never imagined that Yaz, or any oral contraceptive could do such a number on my body. Hormones can be evil. I am going to avoid oral contraceptives from now on. I would rather suffer PMDD than ever go through this ordeal again! 		34 Female 04/02

Tretinoin Emollient Topical (tretinoin topical) 10 days

 After two weeks of applications the skin on my neck (specifically the back and the sides) felt prickley and had lots of red bumps. I did have small spots there previously but not it is all red and so itchy and prickley. Face skin is redder and dryer than normal with minimal flaking but these are normal side effects and not too bad. 34 Female 01/06
