Hibiclens (chlorhexidine topical) 5 ml 1 days
Contact dermatitis - an allergic reaction caused by contact
I'm a pharmacy technician at my local hospital and my experience with Hibiclens began at work. Before this day I'd had unblemished skin.
Before sterile compounding any IV's we must wash everytime we enter the buffer room. Our antibacterial soap had been changed to Hibiclens and within a couple of hours of using this product over and over my hands and arms began to welt, turn hot, and then they began to blister.
Later, as they began to heal and inflammation went down, hyperpigmentation developed where the blisters had peeled and flaked away.
Then on a weekend spent in the sun I found out I was now photosensitive. The skin of my hands and arms turned red, blistered and I went through the same process of healing all over again.
I cannot go outside during the day anymore without protecting my hands and arms with either cloth, 100 proof sunblock or both. And my doctor says it may take up to a year before they are fully healed.

Pepcid AC Maximum Strength (famotidine)
Hives (itchy welts)
Started taking it for autoimmune skin disorder. Works fine for the hives... stops them... but the depression and "stupidity" that comes with it makes me question whether it is worth it. It dulls you just enough that you seem like you "aren't on your game" and you don't care. Makes it very hard to function at work. MUST counter with stimulants. Find my organizational skills failing... having trouble spelling... can't recall peoples names as easily... can't get much done. Lot's of staring at the computer screen. 43 Male 06/07

Biofreeze (camphor-menthol topical) 2 x Day 3 weeks
Atopic dermatitis (skin rash related to an allergic reaction such as eczema)
No Side Effects
I am concerned that I may be harming myself. But the itch of my eczema is so bad that the Biofreeze soothes it. Is it the active ingredient (menthol 3.5%) that helps with the itch? Any suggestions about continuing its use? I have been to seven dermatologists, tried many prescriptions including steroids, with no relief. 68 Female 05/12

Allegra-D 24 Hour (fexofenadine-pseudoephedrine) 180mg 5 weeks
Allergy
I began taking fexofenodine along with Nasonex about 6 weeks ago. I had severe allergies and was also diagnosed with walking pneumonia. I was having bad headaches during my illness and had fluid behind my ears and had a bad cough. All of this cleared up after antibiotics, except the headaches, whihc I thought were sinus headaches (yet very similar to migraines in the level of pain, which I get about 4 times a years) the headaches start at night, sometimes in the middle of the night, they actually wake me up. There are behind my right eye mainly but the entire side of my headaches and I get stabbing pain. I stopped the Nasonex 2 weeks ago, and was still getting the headaches. I stopped the Fex only 2 days ago. I had a mild short headache the first night without and not headache last night. I really believe the medication is causing my headaches which is a drag because it actually really helps with all my allergy symptoms. I gave a friend with severe allergies one of my pills to try and she got a migraine that night. This is what prompted me to think that it's the medication, not my sinuses causing the headaches. 46 Female 05/05

Omnaris (ciclesonide nasal) 2 sprays 2 years
Allergy
I had high hopes for this drug. It REALLY helped my allergies but after a year and a half I stared having a face that looked like I had a bad sunburn. I kept using this because I didn't know what was causing the problem. Finally figured it out. Good luck to those of you it helps. I know there a side effects to all medications--that doesn't mean they're bad for everyone. 62 Female 05/03
