niacin 500mg
Familial high density lipoprotein deficiency (inherited condition in which HDL/"good" cholesterol almost absent - with enlarged tonsils; orange/yellow-gray color of the throat and rectum; enlarged liver, spleen, and lymph nodes; clouding of the cornea of the eye; and disease of the nerves)
The swelling and itching for a week and a half has driven me crazy. Anti itch medication has not helped nor did Benadryl. Topical creams did nothing. Nights have been a misery. Getting to sleep or waking up with itching and not being able to get back to sleep has made each night and day unbearable. I swelled up in a matter of hours and have been very uncomfortable carrying around an extra 5 to 6 pounds of fluid. I do have chronic kidney disease and at first thought it was my kidneys backing up. My nephrologist didn't think that my itching and swelling had anything to do with my kidney problem. All my tests, including a CT scan came out normal. It came down to the niacin which I newly added to my vitamin supplement regimen because of my family caused high cholesterol. (My cardiologist approved my taking the new supplement.) I continue to have the itching and I don't seem to find any relief with the passage of time. I just wonder how much longer it will go on. 66 Female 10/15
