Faslodex (fulvestrant) 250 mg 60 days
Breast cancer
Metastatic breast cancer
Faslodex has some pretty grim side effects, but most startling is the muscle weakness and shortness of breath due to almost any level of exertion (brushing my teeth, for example, can leave me panting). I am 37 years old and a lifelong athlete, so a sudden decline is absolutely noticeable. Constant nausea, too. Being on Faslodex is as uncomfortable as being on chemo except that it doesn't seem to mess with cognitive functioning the way chemo did. Side effects not noticeable until after 3 shot. 37 Female 06/07

Savella (milnacipran) 100 mg
Breast masses/tumors
I had some definite benefits to taking Savella and I am so disappointed it went south so quickly. I really wanted it to work long-term. There were also side effects all along. I was told they would be transient. While the initial headaches and nausea did get better (for awhile), the extreme flushing didn't The body temperature side effects suddenly swung from extreme sweating and overheating to cold body temperature and chills. Also the mental clarity and emotional resilience I felt the drug helped me to develop were suddenly replaced by mental confusion, memory problems, racing disorganized thoughts of panic/anxiety, emotional meltdowns with any stress. It also elevated my blood pressure and heart rate much above normal (twice on heart rate) and seems to have supressed my normal cortisol levels, and stopped my breathing at times, and made me hyperventilate on a chronic basis. Scariest prolonged experience of my life -- dangerous and life-threatening. Don't go on this unless your doctor will monitor you at least every 2 weeks, give you access if you suddenly develop serious symptoms and is knowledgable enough to detect the side effects. 46 Female 04/20

exemestane 25 4 months
Aromasin (exemestane)
Breast cancer
Lack of energy/fatigue
Severe insomnia
Bone pain
Appetite change
Anxiety/nervousness/panic/tension
Constipation
Headache
Severe hot flashes
Had hot flashes before beginning to take exemestane due to chemo and bilateral oopherectomy, but they have increased since initiation of med. Also had some insomnia which has increased since on med, and have occasional anxiety with insomnia. Never had bone pain before med, and rarely (like once every few years) had headaches. Fatigue is less than when on chemo, but is still present. Had started getting my appetite back then I started taking med and it is reduced again (but I can eat since I am no longer nauseated). Constipation is also frequent now. I am taking the drug as part of a clinical study comparing exemextane to tamoxifen. I was randomized to the arm that takes exemstane and has ovarian suppresion (hence the oopherectomy). Ohter arms are tamoxifen alone or tamoxifen and ovarian suppression. The study is for women who were pre-menopausal. 47 Female 05/20
